Under the supervision of the Lead Engineer, the intern will complete a variety of assignments to provide general support to the engineering group and other disciplines across LJ Star. Assignments will include a variety of analytical, mechanical, technical, administrative, and/ or research-based assignments. This can include moderately complex mechanical, electronic, or physical testing and/or analysis of materials or products. You will be expected to document results in reports, records, and/or presentations.
Assignments will make a positive contribution to LJ Star as well as provide the student with “hands-on” work experience.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
An individual in this position must be able to successfully perform the duties and responsibilities listed below. Other duties may be assigned.
- Assist engineers with the preparation of project records, documentation and paperwork
- Participate in product design projects including preparation of project forms and documentation, design specification and implementation
- Assists the engineering team in the provision of technical support to sales, manufacturing, purchasing, quality and customer service.
- Use AutoCAD/Inventor to prepare drawings and documentation related to specific engineering projects
- Create/manage bills of materials, material specifications and processes specific to a project.
- Applying documentation and continuously maintaining engineering systems, competencies, procedures, know-how, and/or specifications
- Work with cross-functional teams in the development of new products.
- Support ongoing engineering documentation improvements, for improved process management and organizational efficiency
- Aid in engineering work of internal project development and designs
Required Qualifications and Skills
- Pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent degree program at an accredited university in pursuit of an engineering degree
- Experience with CAD Software and Solid Modeling (Autodesk Preferred) and experience with PDM (Autodesk Vault)
- Strong ability to understand and help modify existing mechanical designs and products.
- Ability and eagerness to learn quickly and demonstrated high initiative and independence
- Desire to work in a team environment
- Basic engineering computer and data entry skills; MS-Word, MS-Excel
- Comply with all security and safety guidelines and actively protect employees (accident protection)
- Proficient in reading/developing technical drawings
- Experience with ERP systems (Trulinx) preferred
- Self-motivated individual with attention to detail and cost-conscious technical knowledge in mechanical/fluid systems.
- Maintain professionalism while working among team members in an office environment
- Uphold duty to keep affected team members informed of task/project status updates
